|
|
I'm not quite sure if we're allowed to talk about music that might not be on Trojan records. But was interested in hearing some suggestions about then next dub cd I should get. I've been thinking of like the Lee Perry Arkology collection, or Scientist Rids the World from the Evil Curse of Vampires OR King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown with Augustus Pablo. So any suggetions? _________________ Save a bread mister |

Augustus Pablo's "King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown" is the definitive dub album (from 1975 - I only have this on a US Clocktower LP - CT085) - a template for everything else that followed for the next couple of years.
An absolute, unreserved "must have" album
Also, Joe Gibbs & the Professionals/Mighty Two "No Bones For The Dogs" dub album (UK Pressure Sounds PSCD37 - released in 2002) is highly recommended - these tracks date from the latter half of the 1970's, when Messrs. Gibbs and Thompson were probably at their most creative. _________________ In love or in sympathy with someone. Having a party fun or fête then rush for a Halagala record.

No problem! We all have a life outside of Trojan, so no restrictions on talking about it _________________ I'll think of something later.... |

VWC is right...
While the Trojan Dub Box Sets are useful as in introduction and they are good sets, IMO they should be treated as such, an introduction.
However, "Flashing Echo..." is a far superior collection IMO, useful liner notes and presented as more of a history (UK Trojan TJDDD051 - 2002) _________________ In love or in sympathy with someone. Having a party fun or fête then rush for a Halagala record.

Thanx I got your email Zapatoo i'll PM you in a sec
But I agree about the Trojan Dub box sets. There great but only an introduction. They did help get me into other artists such as Scientist, Prince Jammy etc. _________________ Save a bread mister |

Haven't played "Arkology" in a while, Moses - guess I'd better dig it out soon _________________ In love or in sympathy with someone. Having a party fun or fête then rush for a Halagala record.

I just got my copy of King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown with August Pablo. This album is absolutely great. I love it. And I got the Deluxe Edition as well, so mine has 4 bonus tracks. Pablo's keyboard and clavinet playing matches Tubby's tracks perfectly. _________________ Save a bread mister |

Flashing Echo is a brilliant set, dubclash...no doubt.
Obvious difference between that and "King Tubby M R U" is that the former is a compilation covering many years and many artists' work, while the latter is simply a single-artist work of art!
Glad you like that RockSteady - I put KTMRU plus it's vocal cut (Jacob Miller/Baby I Love You So) up in my shared files on Soulseek, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to get connected to Soulseek these last couple of days _________________ In love or in sympathy with someone. | My favourite dub period is the early eighties one, especially the Scientist tracks Henry "Junjo" Lawes produced. |

I like the seventies and early eighties.
Plus King Tubby Meets Rockers was in the seventies and this is becoming my one of my all time favorite albums. I love it! _________________ Save a bread mister |
