I'd like to get an (almost) exhaustive list of the many covers/versions of Prince Buster 's Al Capone. I only know four of them (including the 1965 original version) : the one featured on the Outlaw LP (a 1968 cut, I think), the Judge Dread one and the Specials' Gangsters.
I 'd be happy if someone could help me...

Hi Don K...

Smile Don't forget Emperor Rosko's version - UK Trojan TR7758 - Al Capone // Kaiser Bill (1970)

Smile Also, take a listen to Boney M's "Baby, Do You Wanna Bump?" from early- mid-1976 or thereabouts - that's effectively "Al Capone" with different words and a disco beat!!

Of course, there is also Buster's (so-called) "Live" version from his "On Tour" album. But - if memory serves me right, this is the same as the one that appears on the Outlaw album...

There's also Joe the Boss's 'Son of Alcapone' on the Joe label, although not having heard it for some years I can't recall whether it's actually a version of 'Al Capone' or not.

The Roaring Twenties by Mood Reaction on PAMA GAS, GAS136(2) is a version of Al Capone but with plenty of guitar playing the main theme.
Son of Al Capone is not a version of it, but shares the same rhythm track as Tea Patty, Sex and Ganga on JOE, JRS1B.
I'm sure with a bit of looking there's many more.

Reggae Room

I was recently talking to someone from Mood Reaction who was playing at Club Ska. He told me that the group tried to sign with both Trojan and Pama. He said they went with Pama because Mr Palmer offered a two single and one album deal whilst Lee Gopthall wanted four singles. He also said that the album, a live recording, was changing hands for silly prices in the far east!

That is a lot further east than Amsterdam.

There is a Version on The Jazz Jamacia album "Massive". The track starts with The Theme from The Godfather then goes into Al Capone. Good track excellent album.
